Another win for workers’ rights as national labour court rules again in favor of Histadrut

Barely two weeks since the historic decision by Israel’s national labour court to compel the management at Pelephone (a mobile phone carrier) to stay neutral during a union organizing campaign, the court has once again ruled in favor of unions in what the Histadrut is calling a precedent setting case.

At issue was the right of employees of “Machsanei Cheshmal”, a subsidiary of a much larger company, to be considered a bargaining unit of their own. The court ruled that they are, making it far easier for the Histadrut to organize not only this company, but many others as well.

The head of the Histadrut’s trade union department was quoted as saying that this precedent-setting ruling by the national labour court, taken together with the earlier Pelephone decision, is another very important step that will allow workers to more easily realize their right to unionize.
