Bread and Roses: Fair trade calendar – paintings by Israeli and Palestinian women
One of the ways trade unions can help promote genuine peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians is to find projects that already exist and help support them. A good example is Sindyanna of Galilee — a group set up by Palestinian women in 1996 which promotes the sale of olive oil and other products. As they write on their website, “Sindyanna symbolizes a unique cooperation between Arabs and Jews, striving to strengthen the economy of the Arab-Palestinian population, both in Israel and in the Occupied Territories.”
Sindyanna and the Workers Advice Center (WAC) have just produced a beautiful calendar consisting of 12 paintings by Israeli and Palestinian women, based on an exhibition called “Bread and Roses” recently held in Tel Aviv at which hundreds of such paintings were shown. You can now order the calendar online by clicking here and we encourage you to do so.
By purchasing calendars from Sindyanna, your union is making a genuine contribution to peace in the region.
