Histadrut announces industrial action in local authorities

The Histadrut, Israel’s national trade union centre, yesterday announced that it was launching industrial action in all the country’s local authorities, including those of the three largest cities – Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa.

The dispute revolves around a deadlock in negotiations over pay — the union claiming that employers were refusing to implement agreed-upon bonuses.

The action has begun with workplace meetings and is expected to escalate in the days to come.
