PGFTU visits DC to meet US counterparts
The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) has accepted an invitation from the AFL-CIO to meet in Washington DC to look for ways to improve relations between US and Palestinian unions.
The General-Secretary of the PGFTU, Shaher Saed, is leading the delegation which arrived in Washington on Monday.
This visit aims to identify American trade unions who are eager to establish relations with their Palestinian counterparts so as to help Palestinian workers to improve their lives.
The PGFTU website explains that the delegation hopes to show American union leaders the difficult situation that Palestinian workers face every day because of the occupation.
The Palestinian union visitors will meet with the AFL-CIO leaders including Rich Trumka as well as meeting with leaders of the construction, timber and forestry unions.
The PGFTU delegation will also meet with the U.S. State Department, human rights organizations and the U.S. National Security Council.
The delegation will also meet with union people in Michigan as well as Palestinian and Arab communities there so as to update them n the current economic and political situation created by the continuing occupation and the attacks on Palestinians in Jerusalem and other parts of the occupied territories.
